Hill Reclaims Summit On Billboard 200

Lauryn Hill has staved off challenges from both the Kiss Army and some righteous rockers to regain the top spot on The Billboard 200. “The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill” (Ruffhouse/Columbia) returns to No. 1 on the chart this week, selling 168,000 units, according to SoundScan. Glam rockers Kiss score their highest debut ever with “Psycho-Circus” (Mercury), which enters at No. 3 (109,500 units sold), while Christian act dc Talk channels some divine intervention with “Supernatural” (Forefront/Virgin), which bows at No. 4 (106,000 copies moved). Bounding up to No. 2 is the eponymous debut by RCA teen favorites ‘N Sync, which sold 113,000 units.

Last week’s chart-topper, Marilyn Manson’s “Mechanical Animals” Nothing/Interscope), tumbles to No. 5 this week on the strength of 98,000 copies shifted, while R&B crooner Keith Sweat remains a player with “Still In The Game,” which bows at No. 6 on sales of 97,000 units. The Beastie Boys’ “Hello Nasty” (Capitol/Grand Royal) greets the No. 7 spot (92,000 units), while another rap album, the Def Jam/Mercury soundtrack to “Rush Hour,” drops a place to No. 8 (92,000 copies). Barenaked Ladies are still pulling tricks at No. 9, as “Stunt” (Reprise/Warner Bros.) sold 87,000 copies, while pop/country queen Shania Twain wraps up the top 10 with “Come On Over” (Mercury Nashville), which enjoyed sales of 86,000 copies.

Among this week’s other debuts are FlipMode Squad’s “The Imperial” (FlipMode/Elektra/Elektra Ent. Group), which checks in at No. 15; Goo Goo Dolls’ “Dizzy Up The Girl” (Warner Bros.), which bows at No. 17; Chris Isaak’s “Speak Of The Devil” (Reprise/Warner Bros.), which arrives at No. 41; Lyle Lovett’s “Step Inside This House” (Curb/MCA), which walks in at No. 55; and Jerry Seinfeld’s “I’m Telling You For The Last Time” (Universal), which talks its way to No. 59.
